Cambium Social Studies Tools

When taking the online STAAR test for Social Studies, students have access to various tools that are available to all test-takers. Many social studies questions involve a stimulus, which can include maps, graphs, charts, images, text excerpts, bulleted lists, graphic organizers, and more.

To answer the Social Studies STAAR questions effectively, students need to read and comprehend the question, the stimulus, and the answer choices. They must also recall relevant content knowledge from the course and apply it to the information presented in the question using appropriate processing skills such as sequencing, categorizing, cause and effect, inferencing, drawing conclusions, and evaluating. That is a lot of thinking with each question!  To help keep information organized, we strongly encourage students to ask for scratch paper and use the KEYS method as they work through each question.
